The Golden Gate
Railroad Museum will team up again with the Pacific
Locomotive Association on Labor Day Weekend to run another
series of Sunol Steam Specials
on the Niles Canyon
Railway using the GGRM's SP 2472 P8 Pacific. These trips proved to
be very popular over Memorial Day so we will do it again in a
slightly different format. Once again the 2472 will operate on
Saturday and Monday and be on display in Sunol on Sunday with the
UP RPO and Oakland Business car during the normal PLA Sunday
operation. On Saturday we will do an all Harriman car Photographers
Special with photo Runbys leaving Sunol at 8:30 am to get morning
light in the canyon. Only limited seating will be available, order
tickets in advance. At 1:30 and 3:00pm, we will do Niles turns with
added open cars and baggage cars . It is planned to operate the
normal four trip PLA Schedule with departures at 10:30, 12:00,
1:30, and 3:00 pm from Sunol on Monday. No boarding at Niles
because of the usual Sullivan Underpass and Niles parking
problems.
As before these
family trains will have open and closed cars with tickets prices at
$25 for adults and $10 for children. The Photographers Train will
be $65. An all day ticket is $110. Refreshments will be sold on
board.
First Class service
will be offered for a limited number of passengers aboard the
Business Car Oakland for $50 each (adults only) on the family
trains. In first class adult beverages and snacks will be included
in the fare. On the trip from Niles to Sunol, the train will
accelerate in several locations to maximize the 2472 stack talk
(steam engine chuffing) to give passengers a full steam
experience. An online ticketing fee will be applied to each ticket.
